Photography encourages me to truly experience life. A life without routine, stress and monotony. Each second needs to be appreciated as once it has elapsed it can no longer be captured: the story has been lost. A photo is not just a product of a camera, it is a reproduction of internalised thoughts: the calmness of 10 seconds; the fury of 1/4000th of a second.
The beauty of the sun rising over intricate rock formations. The eery silence of dead trees protruding from a fog covered lake. The wonder of the cosmos down a no through road in country Queensland. These are the majesties that I would have never experienced without photography.
There was no “eureka” moment. Rather, it has been culminating for years. My first passion was pixel art, one pixel at a time in primary school. Soon after came website design and creation. In high school my media subject reinforced my creative pursuits. The travel bug saw me shoot New Zealand with a Kodak Easyshare and left me with a hunger for a more capable camera.
